Zero Data Retention (ZDR)
A policy where AI/LLM input and output data are not stored or used for training.
What is Zero Data Retention (ZDR)?
Zero Data Retention (ZDR) is a privacy policy where, when you use an AI/LLM service, neither your input (prompt) nor the AI's output (response) is stored on the service's servers or used to train the LLM.
Why ZDR Matters
In a typical AI API, requests and responses are logged and may later be used for service improvement or model training. This raises concerns:
- Trade-secret leakage: Cards, contracts, internal docs sent to AI might appear in other companies' AI outputs
- PII retention: Names, contacts, notes saved unintentionally
- Regulatory risk: Conflicts with GDPR, APPI, PIPA, HIPAA
OpenRouter's ZDR
OpenRouter is a meta-provider for LLM APIs and offers settings that route to upstream providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Together AI) with ZDR enforced. NameGood has this enabled at the account level.
NameGood's Implementation
- AI processing only through OpenRouter
- ZDR enabled at account level
- Card data not used for LLM training, no log retention
